Try Sidemount

The February 11 date is confirmed to take place.

Who this class is for

This session is for certified divers who are curious about sidemount and want to experience it firsthand in a pool-only, controlled environment. It’s ideal for divers interested in exploring alternative equipment configurations without committing to a full sidemount course.

Prerequisites

  • SDI Open Water Scuba Diver (or equivalent)

  • Minimum age: 18 (15 with parental consent)

What you can expect

This class is focused on hands-on exposure, not certification or open water diving. You’ll spend time in the pool learning how sidemount equipment is set up and how it feels in the water.

Topics include:

  • Overview of sidemount equipment and configurations

  • Harness and BCD setup

  • Cylinder attachment and removal in shallow water

  • Regulator routing and basic hose management

  • Proper weighting and trim considerations

  • Buoyancy and body position in sidemount

  • Basic communication and problem awareness

All skills are practiced in the pool only, with an emphasis on comfort, control, and familiarity.

What this class is (and isn’t)

  • ? A low-pressure way to try sidemount before committing further

  • ? Focused on comfort, fit, and in-water feel

  • ? Not a certification course

  • ? No open water dives

  • ? No gas-switching, emergency drills, or technical procedures

Why take this class

Sidemount offers flexibility, comfort, and reduced back strain—but it’s different from backmount. This class lets you decide whether sidemount is something you want to pursue further, all in a relaxed pool setting.
